FREEBORN JEWELLERY

I’ve spent 30 years in the jewellery trade, learning traditional techniques in a hands‑on workshop environment. From repairing and resizing pieces to restoring family heirlooms, designing custom jewellery, and crafting the final piece, the work has always offered something new to discover.
Creating engagement rings and wedding bands is especially meaningful to me. Transforming raw materials into a handmade treasure that symbolises a lifelong commitment is what inspires me most.
I’m passionate about working with gold and precious gems — coloured sapphires, opals, pearls, and diamonds, and to create one of a kind original pieces that reflect the wearer. 

THE STORY BEHIND THE NAME

When it came to naming this online studio, I wanted a name that carried genuine history. Freeborn is my family name, and it connects me directly to my dad, who was my original inspiration, instilling in me the dedication it takes to learn a trade.

While I have happily used my married name, Lee, for the past 25 years, keeping Freeborn as the face of the business feels like the perfect way to honour where my journey began.

THE HALLMARK

On the inside of each hand crafted piece, you will find my custom hallmark: a small, clean butterfly. My first name, Vanessa, translates to butterfly, making it a natural fit for my maker's mark. The emblem is a subtle signature of handmade quality, care, and integrity.
